Our Founder

Safes for a Cause was founded by Scott Carlson, someone who has spent more than a decade inside the firearm community and nearly as long inside the safe and security industry. This work did not come from theory or policy papers, it came from years of listening, building, selling, and living alongside the people most affected by these conversations.

Scott has over 10 years of experience in the firearm industry, working directly with gun owners, retailers, manufacturers, and families. Through that time, one thing became clear: the vast majority of firearm owners care deeply about responsibility, safety, and independence. They believe firearms, when used correctly, are valuable recreational and defensive tools. They also believe strongly that government mandates and one-size-fits-all solutions miss the mark. Any approach that ignores those core values is unlikely to be trusted or used.

At the same time, Scott brings 9+ years of experience in the safe and security industry, working closely with individuals who value privacy, discretion, and quality. Safes are not just products, they are deeply personal. They protect what matters most, and the people who buy them expect anonymity, reliability, and respect. Over time, it also became clear that while the industry excels at physical security, it has largely failed to modernize or adopt technology in ways that could meaningfully improve safety, usability, and impact.

This work is also personal.

Scott and his team understands what it feels like to go through hardship without wanting to talk to anyone about it to look for help quietly, privately, and on your own terms. That experience shaped how Safes for a Cause thinks about prevention. Many people do not want a conversation, a hotline, or a system that feels invasive. What they want are practical tools and resources that protect their dignity while still offering support.

After years of working alongside prevention organizations, coalitions, and community partners, another reality became clear: most prevention efforts were not built with the firearm community in mind. While well-intentioned, many initiatives unintentionally created friction, distrust, or outright rejection by the very people they hoped to reach. That left a massive gap, not in motivation, but in execution.

Safes for a Cause exists to fill that gap.

Our Mission

Our mission is to connect both sides by creating modern safes, storage solutions, and supporting resources that firearm owners actually want to use, while working alongside organizations that support prevention efforts to help them achieve their goals more effectively. Everything we build is voluntary, community-driven, and designed to respect autonomy, privacy, and personal responsibility.

We believe prevention works best when it:

  • Respects the values of Gun Owners and the 2A Community.

  • Prioritizes privacy and anonymity

  • Uses modern tools thoughtfully, not intrusively

  • Meets people where they are not where we wish they were

This doesn’t feel forced because it isn’t. It’s built from lived experience, industry knowledge, and a belief that meaningful change happens when trust comes first.

Safes for a Cause isn’t here to tell people what to do.
We’re here to build tools and bridges that actually get used and in doing so, help save lives.
