Temporary Locker Storage Privacy Policy

PRIVACY POLICY

Safes for a Cause Technologies / Safes for a Cause

Effective Date: May 13, 2026

1. Introduction

Safes for a Cause ("Safes for a Cause," "we," "us," or "our"), respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the limited personal information we collect from individuals who use our temporary storage Locker service and our website. This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, how we use it, with whom (if anyone) we share it, and the choices you have.

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through our website, our self-service Locker kiosks, and our SMS notification system. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We are intentionally minimal in the information we collect. The Service is designed to operate using only the information necessary to identify a renter, deliver notifications, and meet legal compliance obligations. We collect:

Mobile phone number. Provided by you at the kiosk; serves as your account identifier and as the destination for SMS notifications.

PIN (hashed). A four-digit code you create at the kiosk. Stored only as a cryptographic hash. We do not retain or have access to your plain-text PIN.

Physical address. Collected for firearm-related rentals only, solely to allow a partnering Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) to meet federal recordkeeping requirements if a firearm is later considered abandoned.

Digital signature. Captured when you sign the kiosk User Agreement, retained as evidence of your acceptance of the terms.

Locker access logs. Timestamps of when your Locker is opened, your assigned Locker number, the host location, and your rental start and end dates.

Optional anonymous survey responses. If you choose to answer the optional registration or closeout surveys, your answers are recorded together with a timestamp and location identifier only. Survey responses are not linked to your phone number, name, address, or any other identifier.

We do not collect, record, or monitor information about the specific items you place in a Locker. We do not access the contents of your Locker, and Locker access is controlled exclusively by your PIN.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect to:

Operate the Locker rental service and manage your rental

Send you SMS notifications about your rental, including access alerts, expiration reminders, and abandonment warnings

Verify your identity for password (PIN) recovery when you request it

Maintain records required by law and by our agreements with host locations

Comply with federal firearms regulations in the limited circumstances where they apply

Respond to your questions and provide customer support

Investigate and respond to security incidents or suspected misuse of the Service

4. SMS Text Messaging Program

When you provide your mobile phone number at a Safes for a Cause Locker kiosk and complete the rental signup process, you expressly consent to receive recurring automated SMS text messages from Safes for a Cause related to your Locker rental. Messages may include rental confirmations, access alerts, expiration reminders, abandonment notices, and account-related service messages.

Message frequency varies based on your rental activity. Message and data rates may apply. You may reply STOP to any message to opt out of SMS, or HELP to receive help. Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of any purchase.

Mobile Information and Sharing of SMS Data

Safes for a Cause does not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose your mobile phone number, your SMS opt-in data, or your consent records to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All categories of information sharing described in this Privacy Policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

We may share mobile information only with our service providers that support the delivery of SMS messages on our behalf (such as our SMS gateway provider), and only to the extent necessary to deliver the messages you have agreed to receive. These service providers are contractually prohibited from using mobile information for any other purpose.

5. Anonymous Aggregated Data

Safes for a Cause may use aggregated and anonymized data drawn from Service usage (including survey responses, rental frequency, and Locker utilization patterns) to support suicide-prevention initiatives, to improve safe-storage programs, to conduct or support research, and for other lawful purposes including reporting to grant funders, public-health partners, and law enforcement collaborators. Aggregated data cannot reasonably be used to identify any individual user.

6. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

With participating host locations: host locations receive only the minimum information necessary to support their role in the Service. Host FFLs do not receive your PIN or access to your Locker contents during the rental period. In an abandonment scenario, host FFLs may receive information necessary to comply with federal firearms recordkeeping requirements.

With service providers: we use third-party vendors for SMS delivery, hosting, and similar operational support. These providers are bound by contractual obligations to protect your information and may not use it for their own purposes.

For legal compliance: we may disclose information if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Safes for a Cause, our users, or others.

In a business transfer: if Safes for a Cause is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor will be bound by this Privacy Policy or will provide notice and choices regarding any material changes.

As stated above, mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in data, and consent records are not shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes under any circumstance.

7. Cookies and Website Tracking

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate basic functionality and to understand how visitors use the site. We do not use cookies to track individual identifiable users across other websites for advertising purposes. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies; basic website functionality may be limited if you do.

8. Data Retention

We retain rental records, access logs, and digital signatures for the longer of (a) the period required by applicable law, or (b) the period necessary to support potential abandonment proceedings, dispute resolution, audits, or other legitimate operational needs. Anonymous survey responses may be retained indefinitely in aggregated form. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed for the purposes for which it was collected.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the limited information we collect. PINs are stored using cryptographic hashing. Communications between the kiosk and our backend are encrypted in transit. Despite our efforts, no method of transmission or storage is one hundred percent secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to us should contact us using the information below.

11. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following choices regarding your information:

SMS opt-out: reply STOP to any Safes for a Cause SMS to stop receiving SMS messages. Opting out of SMS does not terminate your rental obligations.

Access and correction: you can contact us using the information below to request access to your account information or to ask us to correct inaccurate information.

Deletion: you can request deletion of your account information after your rental has been closed out, subject to legal retention requirements.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws. We will respond to verifiable requests as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document. Material changes will be communicated by SMS or by a notice on the kiosk before your next rental. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

13. Contact Us
